Socrates (depicted in this bust) justified the use of noble lies in Plato's Republic.[1]

In politics, a noble lie is a myth or untruth, often, but not invariably, of a religious nature, knowingly propagated by an elite to maintain social harmony or to advance an agenda. The noble lie is a concept originated by Plato as described in the Republic.[2]

In religion, a pious fiction is a narrative that is presented as true by the author, but is considered by others to be fictional albeit produced with an altruistic motivation. The term is sometimes used pejoratively to suggest that the author of the narrative was deliberately misleading readers for selfish or deceitful reasons. The term is often used in religious contexts, sometimes referring to passages in religious texts.

Someone recently on twitter pulled out the federal register from 1984--an auspicious year--in which the government clearly lays out that... for the polio vaccine campaign any information that raises concerns about the safety of that vaccine was to be suppressed, actively suppressed...

That has long been a public policy: ...the idea that leaders and key public decision makers, public health leaders, and government officials, are justified in lying to the public for the common good... I've learned a lot over the last few months about these things.  This traces back to the work of Plato so it's sometimes called the noble platonic line.  You can wiki it and find out more than you ever wanted to know but when you see...

The emails disclosed in The Washington Post of senior government officials that I'll not name openly admitting that they've been lying to the public by the public good-- this is grounded in a platonic concept that it's okay to do that for the common good because people wouldn't accept vaccine should they actually know the full spectrum of risks...

The logic is that anybody that discloses those risks or discusses those risks is causing people to die... this is happening worldwide.  There are countries where physicians are being declared mentally incompetent for either raising these questions or for advancing or discussing repurposed drugs or alternative therapies... some of these physicians are actually being institutionalized for mental instability for having done so and they're definitely losing their licenses or their ability to practice.
